Five Benefits of Personal Training

A lot of people I know work with a personal trainer to meet their fitness goals. As a child I was on many sports teams, always guided by a coach. I think this has played into my mindset that personal training is the right way to work out. Although everyone has different preferences, I know I wouldn’t make it to the gym half of the time without the commitment to my personal trainer. Today I’m going to share a few benefits I’ve personally found in hiring a personal trainer.

1) Accountability

This is the most obvious. You don’t miss an important meeting for work, you don’t skip a scheduled dinner with your girlfriends, and you don’t stiff your personal trainer. Very simple manners! If someone has taken time out of his or her day to help you become a better person, you better show up with a smile and NO excuses!

2) Support

Sometimes the support I get when my trainer says “good job” or “you can do one more” is enough to keep the faith I have in myself strong. On a broader perspective, the support my trainer (and the gym I work out at) offers me in regards to health and nutrition is nearly priceless. I’ve learned that the most helpful decision you can make while reaching your lifestyle goals is to surround yourself with knowledgeable professionals who know how to guide you.

3) Training for your Needs

Yes I can go to the gym with my sister and take turns bench pressing. But, is that really what my body needs? No, I’m training to be healthy and toned. My trainer knows exactly which exercises will benefit me the most. I get personally tailored workouts that fit my fitness goals. This is hugely beneficial because I otherwise would stick to the exercises I’m familiar with, even if they may give me results I’m not looking for. So whether you’re training for a marathon, next football season, or the Miss International competition make sure your workout plan contains exercises that will help you meet your personal fitness needs.

4) Forming #HealthyHabits

Simply put, before making the gym a morning priority I was never a morning person. In fact, I was the scariest early riser in the world. Now I can’t begin my day until I get my work out in, accompanied by a healthy breakfast or meal replacement shake! I fall asleep excited to wake up and get to the gym! On top of this, I have been encouraged to cook more healthy meals at home and make sure I’m eating a balanced diet.

5) Form and Injury Prevention

If you have ever had a personal trainer you know exactly what I mean when I say this: imagine you’re doing an exercise and you’re feeling it in your back when you should be feeling it in your abs. You’re not sure what is wrong but you feel awkward. Then your trainer says to you “stick out your butt” or “bend your knees more”. All of the sudden your abs are killing and your back is stress-free. Personal Trainers know the proper form. Working out alone cannot only be unproductive if you don’t know what you’re doing…it can also be counter-productive and even lead to injury.
