I decided to write this post because I've had trouble sleeping the last several nights. Not only do I have an overwhelming to-do list on my mind, I'm also very excited for pageant week! I find myself laying in bed unable to shut my eyes while my mind races through all of my check lists. Getting a good rest is crucial so your body can restore it's energy, and your mind can relax. Trust me ladies - beauty sleep is a real thing!!
It's important to create a nightly routine that is conducive to a good sleep. Start this routine an hour before you plan on crawling under the sheets.
1) Create tomorrow's To-do list - if you feel organized before you go to bed your mind will not race all over the place. The anxiety of tomorrow's tasks will decrease because everything will seem organized and achievable.
2) Dim the lights - specifically on your cell phone! One of the worst things you can do is scroll through Instagram in bed. I know this may be difficult (I'm guilty) but the bright light really distracts your brain. Also try to dim any bedroom lights to set the mood.
3) Wash your face - use warm water and a gentle face wash to rinse any bacteria and dirt that has been built up from the day, or take a nice warm shower.
4) Place your cell phone on the other side of the bedroom - After setting the morning alarm, place your cell phone across the room so you're less likely to check Twitter and Instagram from bed.
5) Use comfortable bedding - having the perfect pillow certainly helps you sleep better. Make sure you wash the bed-sheets regularly to ensure there is no bacteria build-up.
6) Read a book - this will help your eyes get sleepy and before you know it you'll be nodding off!
